Couple spends eye-watering $14.25m for Sydney penthouse apartment

A Sydney couple has forked out a staggering $14.25 million for a penthouse apartment with views of the Opera House and Harbour Bridge.

The buyers, from Sydney’s eastern suburbs, snapped up the four-bedroom apartment in the 19-level Omnia building on Victoria Street in Potts Pott this week.

The eye-watering price for the 285-square-metre penthouse, dubbed The Royal, equates to $50,000 per square metre.

“The Royal penthouse flows across two floors connected by a grand circular staircase, and includes a sweeping skyline terrace with stunning north-east views, complete with an open-air jacuzzi and BBQ,” developer Greenland Australia said.

“With 285sqm of internal and 170sqm of external space, The Royal offers four bedrooms and four full bathrooms, as well as an entertainer’s kitchen with a glass-encased wine cellar and butler’s pantry.”

The couple didn’t stop there and also purchased another apartment in the building for their adult children, bringing their total spend to just under $16m.

The $262 million building, designed by Durbach Block Jaggers, sits near the famous Coca-Cola sign in what is being touted as the “Paris end” of Potts Point.

The once-seedy suburb has seen rapid gentrification in recent years as the city’s controversial lockout laws forced the closure of a host of bars and nightclubs.

“The buyers clearly understood the unique ambience of the area and the fact that there are very few locations like this anywhere else, and that this type of offering is never to be repeated,” Senior Director of residential real estate agency CBRE Ben Stewart said.

“The owners are expecting to move into the property in September or October this year, once the fitout is complete.”

The last of the three penthouses in the development is still available.

The apartment, named The Noble, also offers four bedrooms across 235 square metres of internal space plus another 121 square metres outside.
