The biggest city within the Western Australia state, Perth is located on the south-westerly side of Australia and close to the coastline. Perth is now home to more than 1.6 million inhabitants and is centred on the Swan River. The City of Perth is a local government area and body, within the Perth Metropolitan Area, which is the capital of Western Australia. The local government body is commonly known as Perth City Council.
